🔥 🔥 Revised 11-29-23 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥  1981 Dark Tower Board Game - Repair Service - Touch Keypad Rebuild  🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 This is a repair service. You need to send in your broken Dark Tower Keypad. 🔥 🔥 Do not remove the keypad cable unless a shim is used to lift the pins in the black connector away from the cable contacts. Pulling out the cable without shimming will scrape off the conductive material and make the keypad worse. 🔥 🔥 Do not attempt to clean the dark keypad flexible cable trace lines. It may appear dark but cleaning it will make the keypad worse or fail completely.  The dark lines are the conductive metal particles screen printed in the lines that have darkened from oxidation.  Removing the dark oxidation with remove all of the conductive metal particles that are left. 👉Make a thin shim using a thin clear blister packaging the same width as the flex cable.  See pictures. Place it into the black connector wiggling side to side to push up the contact pins in the black connector away from the flex cable.  This stops the flex cable traces from being scratched off.  This removal tool is shown in the last 3 pictures.   👉 Once the keypad cable is removed , hold the translucent flex cable up to a bright light to check the condition of the contact areas.  If the contacts at the end are scratched off,  the keypad needs repair.  Check along the flex cable up to the keypad and look for breaks in the traces.  They are easily scratched off.  Then   sent it.  Or send the entire tower and I'll remove it. 👉 If your keypad requires a heavy touch or certains keys do not respond to a press, it's time for a rebuild. This keypad rebuild will replace the dark traces with new ones.  The keypad foils are cut from a solid sheet of conductive copper foil using a Cricut Maker.(cool toy) Keypad presses are only a light touch after the rebuild. 👉 Dark Tower rebuild ==> https://www.ebay.com/itm/222453939513 👉 Note: Is your keypad the actual problem. Make sure your tower powers on with a zero digit then 2 dashes in the display. Next, the self-test If you press a key and the display goes blank , the keypad is working and your tower electronics should turn on the carousel motor to spin the picture carousel to initiate the self-test section that performs the bulb,speaker, and display test.  If your display blanks and the carousel does not spin... it's time for the rebuild. If you press a key and the display still shows flashing dashes, and the motor does not spin the picture carousel, this is a failing keypad or a few keys are not working.  Usually it's an entire column or row that fails. 👉 The best remedy is a complete rebuild of the tower that's fixes many problems with these awesome towers.  Most common are dead motors, circuit boards that need updates, bad battery contacts-wire-power switch and corrosion damage from leaky batteries.  All of these problems and many more are fixed at the same time.  Here is the rebuild item. The keypad label is now being cleaned of the annoying spots as part of the rebuild.  Look at the 2nd picture to see the difference.  This label restoration does not affect the original print or coloring in any way.  This process removes the label stains left over the years by the old adhesive from the back of the label that causes these spots.  Then, new, high quality 3M Super 77 adhesive is applied to adhere the reconditioned keypad label back onto the keypad. 👉 This is not a keypad replacement with other keypad parts off eBay.  This restoration reuses all original parts. 👉 Any questions , please ask.
