A discount bundle of 5 strategy games from the Peg Pastimes series from NewVenture Games that represent a collection of landmark
board games from the ancient Egyptian dynasties. Made in USA for 2 players ages 8+. This bundle includes: • Aseb was originally from Babylon or
Mesopotamia, and migrated to Egypt as a version of the
ancient Middle Eastern "Game of 20 Squares." According to some historians
the Egyptian name of this game was Tjau, which in the ancient Egyptian
slang meant “got it!” or “bingo!” but others claim that this name is a
mistake. Aseb is a simpler than the Royal Game of Ur. • Hounds & Jackals is a strategy board game that came into existence during the
Middle Kingdom, around the 9th Dynasty, circa 2135 – 1986 BCE. The first complete set was discovered by Howard Carter in
1910 in a Theban tomb of ancient Egyptian pharaoh Amenemhat IV that
dates to the 12th Dynasty (mid-Middle Kingdom). This game was also featured in
the Hollywood blockbuster, The Ten Commandments . • Mehen is a strategy board game played from the pre-dynastic
period to the Old Kingdom (c. 3000 – 2181 BCE). It is also called the
'snake game' because the board is shaped like a coiled snake. A Mehen
board also appears in a picture in the tomb of Hesy-Ra, and its name
first appears in the tomb of Rahotep. • Senet was invented by the ancient Egyptians around 3,100 BC. It was a
very popular game, played among commoners and nobles alike for many
generations. Archaeologists even found the Senet board in the tomb of
famous Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Ancient Egyptians were already playing Senet
when mammoths were still roaming in Siberia! • Tâb is the Egyptian name of a running-fight board game played in
several Muslim (mostly Arab) countries, and a family of similar board
games played in North Africa (as sîg) and Western Asia, common in
ancient Iran and Turkey. It is also found in Somalia, where a variant
called "deleb" is played.
Tâb has been continuously played in Egypt at least since the Middle Ages until today and it's one of the few truly ancient games whose rules are definitively known to be authentic.
