I've graded them by my own scale, which is different from things like baseball cards that are sought after for their collectability and rarity; my scale is lower as board game playing cards are sought for function and basic appearance only:
- FINE: minor imperfections, show general slight wear from normal use. May contain one of (but 2) of the following: slight soiling, slight yellowing, slight crease that does not break surface of card; such cards could typically be expected from adults that play the game a few times, then put it safely into storage
- VERY GOOD: noticeable wear, but no major damage. May contain at most two of: light soiling, light yellowing, light crease that may barely break the surface of the card, but is not a tear, light tear no more than 1/4", or slight foxing at a corner; such cards could typically be expected from adults that frequently play the game, and exhibits moderate normal usage from wear
- GOOD: one or more severe issues from the previously stated lists, but still fully functional (ie, will not be identifiable from the reverse view against a deck of otherwise VG / F cards. Such cards would typically result from young children playing with them. Will have damage of the sort: tear 1/2" or less, severe yellowing, a single severe crease that permanently misshapens the card and breaks the surface of the card, exposing fibers, etc.
- FAIR: Worse than GOOD, to the extent that it is easily identifiable from the backside while held normally in one's hand
