For sale is a rare antique children's educational board game in dual languages, titled " Napoléon. un Jeu de Dés
/ Napoleon. Würfelspiel Erheiterung für Jung und Alt
" (Napoleon: A dice Game for Young and Old).
Produced in Leipzig by Magazin für Industrie und Literatur; undated but likely made between 1830 and 1850.
Game is in both German and French and is nearly complete with its original sleeve case
, folding game board
, all 25 cards
, and most of the instruction manual
(it is missing some pages).  The game title states that this is a dice game so it is reasonable to assume it may originally have come with a set but they are no longer present/not included in this sale.
The folding game board
consists of a sturdy burlap-like fabric backing to which is attached 12 paper panels - the panels each contain 9 or 12 game squares (one section of the board is slightly shorter than the others to allow easy folding).  When folded the board measures about 5" by 6.25" and when opened measures about 18.75" by 17.25".  Each square contains colorful scenes or symbols related to the life of Napoleon Bonaparte and has a corresponding explanation in the instruction booklet.  Good overall condition - backing is in nice shape for age with some wear and discoloration to creases but fully intact - some fraying along edges as shown.  Game board panels are also in good overall shape; there are creases at corners from folding and some discoloration/soiling as shown (see close-ups for best sense of condition).
The instruction booklet
is in both German and French - it is missing the title page which is the German introduction to the game but the French instructions look to be complete.  It also is missing the back cover.  Included is an "errata" sheet in poor shape that lists corrections to the French translations.  Instruction manual is in in poor to fair condition as shown - it has a vertical crease throughout from storage as well as creased page edges.  Mostly intact with a few pages coming away from binding.  Soiling is present throughout the booklet with some moisture stains as well.
All 25 game cards
are present, labeled A to Z, the first of which features an image of Napoleon himself with arms crossed.  The instructions state there is no "J" card in the set but this is an error, rather there is no "I" card.  Good antique condition with some corner and edge frays, light soiling, and a few small creases.
The sleeve
is made of marbled boards with title sheet affixed to both sides, one in German and one in French; measures about 5" by 6.5".  Quite worn with heavy frays to edges, corners, and sides as well as to the titles - there is an old repair to the bottom side with tape as shown.
