Very RARE 1991 SEALED New GERONTOPOLY Board Game Aging Successfully Chronic Illness Nursing Homes......Box: gerontopoly Very rare, I don't know how many were made, but this game is relatively unknown and scarce. New, sealed. Never opened or played. very collectible. I assume what is shown in the photo is what is in the box, but without opening it, I cannot guarantee what the inside looks like. PLEASE SEE ALL PHOTOS AND READ "CONDITION" BELOW BEFORE PURCHASE.The only info I could find on this game:
THIS INFO IS FROM 1994. The game was designed by two physicians at the University of Florida Health Science Center. Gerontopoly, a new board game, is the brain child of Roger Israel, a former University of Florida fellow in geriatrics, now practicing in Winston-Salem, N.C.,(1994) and George Caranasos, director of the University of Florida College of Medicine's Geriatric Education Center. The game is aimed at helping health professionals and students gain greater awareness and sensitivity toward aging-related changes. The object of the game is to gain as much life satisfaction as possible without losing money, while avoiding chronic diseases. Players move their pieces around a board much as they do in similar recreational games of chance, but their "purchases" are mundane personal aids such as dentures, hearing aids and walkers.   <
Risks are built in with the "aging game." Players of Gerontopoly can find themselves detained in the nursing home, adult day care center or hospital. On the upswing, each time they pass GO, they receive $300 from Social Security.During the game, players try to avoid getting "Chronic Disease" cards and attempt to collect as many "Life Satisfaction" cards and as much money as possible. As you play the game, you accumulate chronic diseases and disabilities, and you try to avoid accumulating them.
The game is used in teaching at the University of Florida Geriatric Education Center, a federally funded program that provides continuing education on the care of older adults for professionals in medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy and health-related professions. CONDITION:
